Consecrated by attendees for the excellence of the past editions, the Brazilian Congress of Hematology, Hemotherapy, and Cellular Therapy (HEMO), organized by the Brazilian Association of Hematology, Hemotherapy, and Cellular Therapy (ABHH), will take place in-person from October 23 to 26, between Wednesday and Saturday at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo, Brazil.

Every year HEMO becomes more multidisciplinary and receives health professionals from the field of Hematology and Hemotherapy, medical hematologists and transfusion medicine physicians, residents, medical scholars, managers, pharmaceuticals representatives, health institutions, patient associations, in addition to decision-makers and opinion leaders

As another year has passed, we gather once again for the Brazilian Hematology community, HEMO 2024. This multidisciplinary gathering brings together professionals from Brazil, neighboring countries, and international guests, enriching our knowledge and connections. It is our annual opportunity to expand our networks, exchange information, and share insights.
Chairing a congress of this significance is a pleasure and an honor. I feel a deep sense of responsibility in representing our Brazilian Association of Hematology, Hemotherapy, and Cell Therapy, as well as each of you, and the Northeast of Brazil. Our Committees' valuable collaboration makes this possible.

I would like to welcome you to my home state of Ceará, with the joy of those who live by the sea, its renowned warmth, and its superb cuisine. However, this year, we meet once again in the vibrant and cosmopolitan São Paulo, the heart of our country.

I invite you to join this great gathering, which is growing larger, better, and richer each year. We are expanding in both physical space and partnerships. We will host educational meetings, joint sessions, and symposia with partners like AIBE, ASH, EHA and ISTH. We have recently established a new and promising partnership with SOHO. The event will bring together the various communities that make up multidisciplinary teams, a forum for access and equity with patient associations, programs for residents, academic leagues, and much more. It will be a diverse event!

We also invite you to celebrate with us a recent milestone: the bill recently decreed and approved by the Federal government establishing October 29th as National Hematologist and Hemotherapist Day. This is a significant recognition and a great triumph!

We will be thousands of people united in the same purpose of learning, interacting, and promoting Hematology. Our HEMO 2024 promises to be an unforgettable event! And it won’t be the same without you. Welcome, everyone!

Carmem Bonfim

Love for Hematology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). This is how the professional trajectory of hematologist, oncologist, HSCT specialist, researcher and professor Carmem Bonfim is defined. Graduating in medicine from the Federal University of Parana (UFPR) in 1988, Dr. Bonfim completed three medical residencies at the same institution: Internal Medicine, Hematology/Oncology and HSCT. She later earned a doctorate in Child Health, under the mentorship of Professor Ricardo Pasquini. In 1995, she attended the International Outreach program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, US), where her commitment to pediatrics became a lifelong mission. Upon returning to Brazil, she established the Pediatric HSCT program at UFPR, furthering her expertise at the University of Minnesota in 1999 and Duke University in 2010 and 2016.
With a robust career in medicine focused on the treatment of children and teenagers with non-malignant hematological diseases, Dr. Bonfim directed the Pediatric HSCT Program at the Hospital de Clínicas of UFPR from 2010 to 2019. She currently serves the position of director of the Pediatric HSCT Program at the renowned Hospital Pequeno Príncipe and works as a doctor in the pediatric HSCT Service at Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças and as a senior consultant in pediatric HSCT at Hospital de Clínicas-UFPR. Dr. Bonfim holds positions on several international committees including CIBMTR (Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research), EBMT (European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation), WBMT (Worldwide Network for Blood & Marrow Transplantation), ISCT (International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy), FARF (Fanconi Anemia Research Fund) and DKMS (Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei). Until early 2024, she served as vice president of LABMT (Latin American Bone Marrow Transplantation Group) and is currently scientific director of SBTMO (Brazilian Society of Cellular Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplantation). Dr. Bonfim has a deep interest in improving access to HSCT in developing countries and firmly believes in the role of societies in enhancing the results of transplants worldwide
As a professor and researcher, Dr. Bonfim is dedicated to teaching in the Graduate Programs in Child and Teenager Health at UFPR and at the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute. Her main areas of interest include HSCT for patients with Hereditary and Acquired Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes, Primary Immunodeficiencies and Inborn Errors of Metabolism. She conducted significant scientific studies on ​​HSCT and other cellular therapies in patients with hereditary bone marrow failure (such as Fanconi anemia), immunodeficiencies and acute leukemias, with an emphasis on long-term survival and patients' quality of life
Dr. Bonfim’s scientific curriculum is remarkable, with 160 scientific papers published in esteemed journals, such as Blood, Lancet Haematology, Haematologica, Transplantation and Cell Therapy, Bone Marrow Transplantation, European Journal of Haematology, Hematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, among others. She has also organized and attended numerous scientific events, published abstracts in annals, attended graduate panels, presentations, other publications and technical productions.
At ABHH, Dr. Bonfim is an active associate, contribution to various activities. She is a member of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Committee and the Marrow Failure Committee. In 2021, she contributed to the development of the ABHH Consensus on genetically modified cells, specifically on CAR-T cell therapy for patients with CD19+ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Bonfim has received several awards, including the Distinction Award for Service Provided from the Fanconi Anemia Research Foundation in 2016, the award for best Latin American work from the European Transplant Congress in 2018, and recognition by SBTMO with an award in her name for the best work in pediatric transplantation presented at their annual congress.
This text is but a glimpse into the recognized and award-winning career of a woman who serves as an inspiration to many professionals, researchers, students, former students, and patients.

Mihoko Yamamoto

Dr. Mihoko Yamamoto, a Brazilian of Japanese descent, has built a remarkable career in Hematology.
A hematologist, professor, and researcher, Dr. Yamamoto graduated in Medicine in 1969 from the Paulista School of Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo (EPM-UNIFESP). She earned her Master's degree (1981) and Doctorate in Medicine (1991) in Hematology from the same university. Between 1992 and 1993, she furthered her professional development with a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Children’s Medical Research Center in Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Yamamoto distinguished herself as an outstanding professional, beginning her teaching career in 1982 in the Hematology and Hemotherapy Department at EPM, focusing on Pediatric Hematology.
She played a key role in organizing the Brazilian Group for the Treatment of Childhood Leukemias (GBTLI) alongside Dr. Silvia Brandalise, Dr. Vicente Odone, Dr. Raul Ribeiro, and Dr. Waldir Veiga Pereira in 1980.
In 2004, she initiated the Brazilian CLL Registry and was one of the founders of the Brazilian Group for Flow Cytometry (GBCFLUX) in 2010.
Dr. Yamamoto has served as a professor of Hematology at both undergraduate and graduate levels and coordinated the Hematology and Hemotherapy Specialization course for physicians and other healthcare professionals. As a researcher, she supervised 13 doctoral dissertations and 11 master's theses, primarily focusing on the pathophysiology of blood disorders, particularly Acute Leukemias and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
In parallel, she served as the Head of the Clinical Hematology Service at the Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual.
In this capacity, she played a crucial role in training numerous hematologists, pediatric hematologists, and hemotherapists who now work at various universities and major hospitals and research centers throughout Brazil.
Dr. Yamamoto has an extensive body of work with scientific articles published in prestigious national and international journals such as Blood, American Journal of Hematology, International Journal of Hematology, Leukemia Research, Haematologica, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Hematology, Leukemia & Lymphoma, British Journal of Haematology, Hematological Oncology, Cancer Reports, and others. She has also contributed to conference proceedings, book chapters, and other technical publications.
At the Brazilian Association of Hematology, Hemotherapy, and Cell Therapy (ABHH), she is a member of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Committee.
Throughout her career, she has received five awards and has earned the respect of her professional peers, students, and administrative staff.

Sandra Regina Loggetto

A distinguished professional in Hematology and Pediatric Oncology.
There are no better words to describe the outstanding career of Dr. Sandra Regina Loggetto.
Highly qualified, she graduated in Medicine from the School of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo in 1986, specialized in Pediatrics at Santa Casa de São Paulo, in Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at the Boldrini Children's Center, in Pediatric Oncology at the Child Institute (USP-SP), and received the degree of specialist in Hematology and Hemotherapy.
In 1998, she received a Master’s degree in Pediatrics and Applied Sciences to Pediatrics in Pediatric Hematology from the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).

Dr. Loggetto is renowned for her work in treating children and teenagers with classical hematological disorders. Currently, she is the coordinator of the Hematology Department at Sabará Children’s Hospital, one of the most renowned in Brazil, and she also serves as a researcher at the Pensi Institute for Teaching and Research of Sabará Children’s Hospital.

In addition, she is the medical manager of the Hemoglobinopathies Outpatient Clinic at the São Paulo Blood Bank – GSH Group, where she conducts clinical research on hemoglobinopathies. She is a member of the Technical Committee for Thalassemia Care of the General Coordination of Blood and Blood Derivatives-CGSH/DAET/SAES of the Ministry of Health and a member of the Scientific Committee of Abrasta (Brazilian Association of Thalassemia).

As an international collaboration, she is a member of the Americas Network for Haemoglobin Disorders of TIF (Thalassemia International Federation).

Her clinical research focuses mainly on anemias, hemoglobinopathies (thalassemia and sickle cell anemia), and purpuras. Dr. Loggetto has a substantial body of work, including 76 publications in books or book chapters and 37 articles in prestigious journals such as Blood, Lancet Haematology, Haematologica, Hematology, Leukemia Research, The American Journal of Medicine, Frontiers in Pediatrics, Hematology Transfusion and Cell Therapy, among others. She is also one of the editors of the books Hematology for the Pediatrician (2007), Pediatric Hematology and Hemotherapy (2014), and Pediatric Hematology and Hemotherapy: Unveiling Clinical Cases (2021), the latter published with the support of ABHH.

Moreover, she has authored numerous abstracts published in conference proceedings, mentored undergraduate studies, carried out technical projects, and participated in and organized events.

At ABHH, she serves as the coordinator of the Pediatric Hematology and Hemotherapy Committee and as a member of the Clinical Research Committee.

Throughout her career, she has received 12 honors, including the Best Work in Pediatric Hematology with the topic Thrombocytopenic Purpura and H. pylori in Pediatrics at the Brazilian Conference of Hematology and Hemotherapy and the Prof. Eric Roger Wroclawski Award - Clinical Medicine Category - 1st place for her study on Iron Overload in Brazilian Thalassemic Patients at Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital, both in 2011.

Her lifelong dedication has always centered on one goal: achieving the best outcomes for her patients.

The registration will be open on Oct. 22 from 2 pm to 6 pm, Oct. 23 to 25 from 7:30 am to 6 pm and on Oct. 26 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Attendees’ registration entitles them to the congress material, access to the scientific program, exhibition and official opening.

Badges

The use of the badge is mandatory and non-transferable; the use by third parties will result in the cancellation of the registration.
In case of loss or forgetfulness of the badge, attendees shall pay R$ 100.00 for the 2nd badge.
According to ANVISA, badges identified as Prescriber grant access to pharmaceutical laboratories stands for samples and promotional gifts and materials.

The Organizing Committee is not responsible for personal belongings left on the premises of the Convention Center.

CNA – National Accreditation Commission

According to CFM Resolution 1984/2012, which deals with the non-compulsory revalidation of the specialist degree, ABHH will not register the events in the CNA.

Plenary Rooms

Rooms have a limited number of seats, which will be taken in order of arrival.
In case of full occupation, participants shall choose another activity.

Scientific Program

The scientific program may change for technical and/or scientific reasons without prior notice.

Corporate Activities (Coffee with the expert Specialist )

The content of some Corporate Symposia and Breakfast with the Specialist are only for attendees based on the compliance policy of each company promoting the activity.

Simultaneous Translation

There will be simultaneous translation at international lectures (English/Portuguese)
Headseats can be taken in counters near the conference rooms. An ID will be asked in advance. Devices shall be returned by the end of the sessions.

Certificate

Certificates will be awarded to all participants.
• REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS - The certificate of attendance will be delivered in the event secretariat on October 26th and it will be sent on-line to attendees within 15 days after the event.
• SPEAKERS - Certificates can be withdrawn from the VIP Room after the presentation or during the congress. You can download it 15 days after the event on the congress website through a link that will be sent to your registered email.
• SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACTS : A certificate will be awarded for the presenting author and only one certificate per work, with title and authors as stated in the approved abstract (no change, addition, or removal of names).

. Panel and guided visit - Printed certificate will be delivered at the end of the exhibition
